WHY SHOULD I...?
You will meet them in clubs, at events, on tours, racing, hanging, trading, engaged in idle conversation…
Something said in chat makes you laugh, charms you, opens doors, or leaves
you wondering...
A friend introduces you, a neighboring
conversation resonates and you recognize
a kindred spirit, or some bonehead is
being willfully oafish in ways that
intrigue you…
The variety of people, and the ways of meeting them are virtually infinite in THERE. You are going to meet some very talented, provocative, even exciting people (perhaps you are one of them). It is always worth taking a second look.
You will for sure want to know more about some of those you meet, and their curiosity may return the favor (interest invites interest ~ this is how the getting-together starts). If so, and you want to share more of who you are…then your Lyric can help.
If 250 characters is too claustrophobic and doesn’t give *you* room to breathe; and if typing…typing…typing the same
“press release” about yourself every
time you meet someone gets old and
boring, just give him your Lyric, (called
"bridging"), or tell her to look you up in
the Village. You can expand your
introductions in conversations later.
Some will feel that one Lyric is all you
need, but we are all complex, complicated
people. (Mother~daughter~wife~woman~
friend~protector~warrior, on and on...
how many different people is she? Who
is she now? Guys will understand.)
Therefore, it is possible to have 2, even
3 Lyrics for the different situations you
will encounter in There (they can be edited on the fly). In the interest of building better, more permanent bridges between Villagers in There, we strongly recommend that your Lyrics all be facets of the real you.
Really. Tell the truth, if you dare. There are many, many kinds of people in There, and many of them are a lot like you. There is a good place to be accepted for who you are. Don’t miss the chance.
“WHAT IS MY LYRIC, AND HOW DO I START?"
Think of your Lyric as herald and prologue. It is your personal introduction to There and your fellow Theriens. We can all be beautiful in There, so it can be what you say in your Lyric that defines you and sets you apart. First impressions matter.
Whether it is a "just the facts" self-portrait, or a "song of myself" poetic silhouette, make your Lyric interesting, make it true, and make it count.
“I DON’T KNOW WHAT TO SAY”
It might help when composing your Lyric to think about the people you like, and the people that you want to find you. In your mind, address your Lyric to the people you want to meet. If you're still not sure, then perhaps another approach will work for you...write to the person you want to become.
GUIDELINES FOR THE LYRIC
Keep it short ~ one page, at least 3 paragraphs, no more than 1000 characters. It can be short enough for a Scroll. A 9,000 character, Book-length, “Epitome” is being considered if enough interest develops.
By way of decree and arbitrary bias, the third sentence of your Lyric becomes your display intro. This is the first thing that others will read when they access your Lyric. Frame your first few sentences accordingly.
Unlike your Profile, your Lyric must be given personally, or found on a visit to the Village Library (unless restricted). If you have more than one Lyric, only one can be designated for library viewing.
Information to consider:
A little personal history, not too specific. No full names, addresses (country, state, region OK), or phone numbers. It’s just a good idea quietly enforced. More information can be traded between new friends once trust has been established.
